Environment

The Kvanefjeld Project has been designed with a focus on minimising impacts on the local environment and providing a positive impact for the people of Greenland.

Environmental impact studies have been completed which show the project does not create significant issues for the local environment or residents of nearby communities. Extensive radiation studies show the increase in radiation exposure caused by the project is negligible. The level of dust generated by the project are very low and well below European standards. All process water is controlled and isolated from the environment with the impact on the fjords studied in detail. There is no competing land use for the project area.

Waste rock will be stockpiled to blend with natural contouring. The majority of waste rock is basalt, which is environmentally benign.

All environmental aspects of the project have been extensively studied by leading consultants that have provided technical reports for the environmental impact assessment.

Social

Obtaining and maintaining a license to operate is central to our business strategy and is consistent with the expectations of our stakeholders. A strong relationship with the community is critical, therefore the Company has developed a relationship based on a partnership model of engagement that involves:

  • consultation
  • transparency
  • participation
  • support
  • respect

We take a balanced and considered approach to managing our business through integrating economic, environmental and social considerations into all of our decisions. It is our objective to deliver long-term benefits to all stakeholders whilst striking an acceptable balance with social and environmental values. Energy Transition Minerals’ vision is to leave a positive legacy that will long outlive the life of mining operations.

The Company, being active in the region for over 15 years, has developed a strong relationship with the Narsaq community. Through transparent consultation and engagement over this period, the Project has strong support for development by the local community, with significant community investment and employment opportunities set to result in a positive impact on the community.

Government Interactions

Over many years, the Company has had a positive relationship with local and national Governments in Greenland. The Company has complied with the legislative and regulatory framework for operating in the country, with all activities undertaken at the highest level within this framework.

More recently, a change in Government has resulted in a change in attitude by the Government of Greenland. The Government has attempted to ‘move the goalposts’ and prevent the development of Kvanefjeld, a move that the Company believes is unlawful and will negatively impact the local community where the Company operates.

The Company has initiated a mediation process with the Government of Greenland to ensure that lawful processes are followed, processes that allow the Company to be awarded an Exploitation Licence and progress the development of this world class critical minerals project.
